IP Enabling Strata CS
Communication Server Business Telephone Systems
The Strata CS
Communication Server is a Voice based software driven communication
server that combines the power of the desktop computer with advanced
telecommunications technology. Strata CS systems can be IP enabled
in various ways.
-
The Strata CS runs on
Microsoft networking over TCP/IP, so it is readily compatible with a
customer’s existing LAN. Strata CS is also compatible with
Novell®IPX network protocol, running in a dual stack configuration.
Strata CS calls can be sent directly over the Internet or a private
TCP/IP network to remote IP telephone users. The Intel® Dialogic®
Internet telephony board connects the Strata CS Communication Server
directly to the customer’s network, and accesses the Internet
through their normal Internet or TCP/IP network connection.
-
The same MCK EXTender
products used with Strata CTX and Strata DK systems are also
compatible with Strata CS systems. This enables both individuals and
groups of remote users to be connected to the host communication
server, using digital telephone extensions with the same
functionality as local digital extension users. Connection to the
remote site may be by analog CO line, BRI, T1, frame relay, or an IP
network
Strata CS VoIP
Solutions
For businesses that rely on the Internet as a critical part of their
communication system, Strata CS includes support for low- to
high-capacity VoIP interface cards that can be installed in the
server. This capability provides small- to medium-sized businesses
with a lower cost of entry for VoIP than traditional systems because
it is fully integrated with the Strata CS telephone system.
The Strata CS
Communication Server seamlessly supports Internet telephony through
an integrated Internet gateway that eliminates the need for external
IP Gateway devices. Combined with dialing services, the Strata CS
Internet telephony support makes it as easy to place and receive
Internet calls as regular telephone calls whether you’re calling
from a locally connected telephone, remote pay phone, or using the
Strata CS Client on your desktop PC. Users can also place and
receive calls from H.323 terminals like Microsoft NetMeeting, a
real-time conferencing and collaboration tool.
The Internet VoIP Gateway PCB routes calls over the Internet or a
private intranet. The built-in H.323 gateway supports tie-lines
between branch offices and other office locations. For example,
Internet/intranet calls can be placed from or to the Strata CS
desktop via an IP telephone or analog set through the gateway to a
remote IP telephone, NetMeeting PC, or another Strata CS system. It
can also be set up to allow your customers to call you from a web
page.
VoIP Trunk Interface: The Strata CS Communication Server
supports simultaneous voice and data transmission over the same IP
network by installing Intel Dialogic telephony boards in the server.
Sending Strata CS calls over the Internet or your private TCP/IP
network does not require any telephone company trunks. The Intel
Dialogic Internet telephony boards connect directly to your network,
and access the Internet over your company’s normal Internet or
TCP/IP network connection. The Internet telephony interfaces support
Internet Protocol (IP) calls via the integrated gateway function. No
external equipment is required.
VoIP interface boards are available in the following versions:
-
4-port Loop Start Trunk
-
8-port PSTN T1 with NIC
-
24-port PSTN T1 with NIC
IP Telephone
Interface: The Strata CS supports remote telephone applications
using Polycom SoundPoint IP 400 H.323 version 2 compliant IP
telephones. Other H.323 v2 IP telephones may work with the Strata
CS. However, the Polycom IP 400 is the only IP telephone certified
by Toshiba to work seamlessly with the Strata CS Communication
Server. Toshiba has found the Polycom IP 400 to be the best IP
telephone available today, providing a large digital display screen,
four context-sensitive soft keys, feature keys pre-programmed for
use with the Strata CS, individual controls for speakerphone,
handset, headset, and a mute button.
IP telephones are connected to the Strata CS via your existing IP
data network or the public Internet. Simultaneous IP telephone
conversations are supported by 4-port, 8-port, or 24-port IP Gateway
cards installed in the Strata CS server.
This enables remote workers to have seamless access to your main
location’s telephone system and voice mail system. Remote employees
have transparent access to the same capabilities as if they were
locally connected to the Strata CS system.
Multiple System Networking: The Strata CS integrated Internet
gateway can be configured to connect multiple Strata CS systems over
the Internet or a private IP network in a unified environment. By
creating virtual gateway users on each server, all users appear to
be local and from the users’ perspective, the two Servers become a
single Strata CS site.
When multiple Strata CS systems are configured this way, an Internet
tie line is created enabling users do the following:
-
Dial any user’s
extension directly, without an access code. Users on either server
can dial each other directly, or select extensions for call
forwarding and routing lists regardless of whether they are local or
remote. In addition to calling extensions, users can dial # to log
in and check remote voice mailboxes, or 411 for the remote Server’s
dial-by-name directory.
-
Local and remote users
appear together in the Client’s Users view, Place Call window, and
other user lists.
-
Select any user when
placing a call, transferring a call or creating a conference call.
-
Search for any user in
the dial-by-name directory.
-
Forward calls to any
extension, or include any extension in a routing list.
-
Place external phone
calls through the remote server. Users can call remote phone numbers
as if they were local phone numbers, such as calling directory
assistance in another city.
-
Place outbound
Centrex/PBX calls through the remote server. Users can dial remote
Centrex/PBX extensions as if they were local, such as extensions on
a legacy PBX system connected to the remote server.
Enhance Your Web Page
with a “Call Us!” button: By using a CallTo: URL on your Web
page, any Internet user with NetMeeting installed can click on a
“Call Us” link on your page to place a call to any Strata CS DID
number. If you assign a DID number to a Strata CS ACD queue user,
you can send Internet users directly into your ACD queue for
processing by an ACD agent.
